The kitchen we grew up in
In Ayodhya, spices were never bought as powder. Haldi came home as whole fingers, mirch as dried pods, dhaniya as seeds. They were picked clean on a steel thali, dried in the sun on the terrace and ground in small amounts. Every house knew exactly what went into its food.
The question that started it
Years later, in a city kitchen, the masala from the market looked brighter but tasted flatter. News of adulterated spices kept coming. Richa started asking a simple question that no label answered: what is really in this packet?
Sri Sarayu is her answer. We buy whole spices from trusted farming clusters, grind them in small batches at our unit in Ayodhya, and send every batch to an NABL-accredited lab before it is packed. The QR on the back of each pack shows you the report.
Why the name
The Sarayu is the river of Ayodhya. For our family it stands for something clean and constant. “Sri” is how we begin anything we respect. The names of our packs (Kosala, Saket, Awadh, Gomti, Prayag, Banaras) come from the same map of home.
A women-led company
Sri Sarayu Agro Industries is owned and run by a woman founder. As we grow, we are building toward:
- Women making up most of our grinding and packing team in Ayodhya
- Buying from women-led farmer groups and self-help groups wherever we can
- Flexible shifts so that mothers in our team can work and be home on time
We will report our progress on these goals on this page every year.
